Research at Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel
Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel - Where Tradition and Innovation Meet
Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel holds artistic and scientific research in high regard. It is at the heart of what we do. Our research embraces both our rich artistic past - dating back to 1832 - and the constant search for innovation. We deliberately operate in the exciting playing field between tradition and innovation. Here, keen observation, in-depth analysis and a rich understanding of context are central. This critical research mentality is in all our programmes: from the Music Programme to the Musical programme, and the Educational Master.
Art as Research: Where Creation and Reflection Flow Together
Artistic research is about the practice itself. Creation and performance are paramount and therefore the research path is inseparable from artistic excellence. The artist/researcher uncovers the deeper layers of his or her practice, critically questions them and freely shares the new insights with peers. The results are shared through different, surprising forms and channels so that common perceptions are challenged and redefined.
We Make Knowledge Accessible for the Future
Artistic research is not only the refinement of an art form, but also the key to unlocking new knowledge and skills. We want to share this wealth of explicit and implicit knowledge with the wider artistic and academic community.
Our Lines of Research: Pioneering on Four Fronts
KCB has defined four powerful lines of research at the heart of all our projects:
- The artistic process: creation, performance, improvisation
- Organology
- Brussels and international contextualisation
- The synergy between technology and creation
